Meg Russell performed her "Hat Parade" program celebrating the differences in each child while conveying the all-important message to children which is no matter how we look on the outside, we're all the same on the inside. My students were singing, dancing and having fun while taking part of this amazing musical adventure. Thanks Meg for providing the children of SFE with a worthwhile, educational experience!

PreS-Gr 3–Singer/songwriter Meg Russell covers a wide variety of topics in these 12 songs. “Muscles” covers the importance of eating the right foods and exercising, “Coloring,” a number about making creative art projects, could be used in school settings as part of the curriculum. “Quiet Train,” a good story time song, includes movement as well as the concepts of quiet and loud. Several of the other songs teach values such as smiling and saying hello to someone who is different from you such as a person in a wheel chair and sharing something special about yourself with others. The lyrics in many of the songs are repetitive, making it easy for children to sing along. Russell’s voice and the backup vocals are pleasant, and there’s a nice variety of upbeat and slower tempo songs.

“Meg teaches kids that even if someone looks different or talks different that doesn’t mean they don’t want to be friends. Friendship comes in many different forms, but it always starts with a smile and saying hi.” http://www.bostonchildrensmusic.com.

“Singer-guitarist Meg Russell, accompanied at times by appealing child vocalists, makes gentle, tuneful music out of the way young children play and discover their world, family life and a parent's awareness of time passing. Woven throughout-with a light touch-are good-for-you messages about nutrition, exercise, ways to be creative, the importance of having "Something Nice to Say" and how little ones absorb information ("I'm a Sponge").” Lynne Heffley ©2011 Parents' Choice http://www.parents-choice.org
